COC Meeting Today

The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is meeting this afternoon.

Prime Minister and Chairperson Sitiveni Rabuka confirmed yesterday in an interview with this masthead.

In May, the COC had advised President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere on the candidacy for the Supervisor of Elections (SoE), Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) and the Auditor-General.

“The COC will meet tomorrow (today) afternoon. They have not sent those out, they might come in today (yesterday),” Mr Rabuka said.

Members of the COC include Mr Rabuka, Government representative Jon Apted, Cema Bolabola, Leader of Opposition Inia Seruiratu, Opposition representative Tupou Draunidalo and Attorney-General Graham Leung.

The COC mandated to formally advice and give recommendation to the President on the appointment of the Chair and members of the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission, the chair and members of the Electoral Commission, the Supervisor of Elections, Parliament Secretary General, Public Service Commission chair and members, Police Commissioner, Fiji Correction Services Commissioner, Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander, Auditor General, and Reserve Bank Governor.

Secretary for COC, Solicitor-General Ropate Green did not comment when this edition went to press.

Meanwhile, in the 2024-2025 National Budget, the commission is allocated $200,000 compared to $20,000 in the 2023-2024 budget allocation.
