Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed that the Constitutional Offices Commission (CoC) will soon decide on the future of Acting Corrections Commissioner, Sevuloni Naucukidi, who is facing a criminal intimidation charge.
Mr Rabuka, who also chairs the CoC, said a “flying minute” would be circulated to members for their review and vote on the matter.
“The members of the commission must review and vote on the matter. Once the general secretary informs us that all members’ views are in, the commission will make the decision,” he said.
Concerns have been raised over Mr Naucukidi’s continued service as Acting Commissioner while the charge remains before the court.
Mr Rabuka said the commission would act collectively and in line with proper procedure.
He also stressed that the CoC operated independently and followed the principle of separation of powers.
“The CoC is independent, just as the courts are, and we all observe the principle of separation of powers,” he said.
The decision will determine if Mr Naucukidi continues in his role while his case is before the court.
