Commerce Group Supports Vuda’s Ban On Smoking, Alcohol And Kava
Chamber president, Pyara Singh, said it was a proactive move by the Vanua o Vuda leading Fijians to a healthier life for them.

The Lautoka Chamber of Commerce has rallied its support on the ban of smoking and consumption of alcohol and kava within the four villages in the district of Vuda which started yesterday.
The ban is also imposed for two maritime areas in the Yasawas.
Chamber president, Pyara Singh, said it was a proactive move by the Vanua o Vuda leading Fijians to a healthier life for them.

The ban is for villagers residing in Viseisei , Lauwaki , Lomolomo and Abaca as well as villager of Namara and Wayasewa in Yasawas.
The ban which is for men and women aged 45 years and below will be lifted on December 1.
The purpose of this is to address non-communicable diseases which is now a prevalent issue in the country.
Mr Singh said the ban was also a directive for people to go to church.
“The chamber supports the Momo na Tui Vuda, Ratu Eparama Kitione Tavaiqia, on the ban of smoking, alcohol and kava consumption and encourages people to go to church,” he said.
“It is a good move to guide our young people towards a better living and this will also assist the Fiji Police Force to maintain law and order.”
He added that this would also increase Fiji’s economic growth.
“Tourism will definitely grow and this is something good for our people,” he said.
