Minister for Agriculture Mahendra Reddy says commercial farmers target markets, create surplus and take control of the production process.
Mr Reddy made these comments at the launch of the Commercial Mushroom Production, Bula Mushroom at the Votualevu Vocational Agriculture School in Nadi last week.
He told the farmers and students present that they can’t be commercial farmers when they involve themselves with various other institutions.

“We can’t promote ventures which are dependent on various other institutions. Someone providing land, someone providing a cooler facility, you are tying yourself up. You cannot grow at that rate.
“We need sustainable commercial agriculture models that will ensure that we can grow mushrooms which can also attract other producers in the sector,” he added.
