The University of the South Pacific appointed commissioners of Graeme McNally, Satish Chand and Jenni Lightowlers had the opportunity to meet with members of the USP Council sub-committee in Auckland on Tuesday.

The commission’s work will be focussed on the development and implementation of an action plan to support outcomes for a stronger USP.

The commissioners, through their newly appointed chair, Ms Lightowlers, note that they will operate independently of the sub-committee and USP and with the delegated authority of the council.

The commission will work in accordance with the USP Council mandated Terms of Reference.

During the conduct of the Commission’s activities, the commission expects that the university will continue to operate in accordance with its existing policies and procedures.

Ms Lightowers said the commission looked forward to briefing the university community in the near future.

Meanwhile, the USP Sub-Committee made up of Fiame Naomi Mataafa (Chair), Henry Puna and Fijian Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum met in Auckland yesterday with the USP Council approved three-member commission.

The sub-committee and commission discussed the work of the commission based on the USP Council mandated Terms of Reference, which includes addressing the matters arising from the BDO Report.

They also discussed the logistical arrangement for the independent functioning of the commission.

Fiame N. Mataafa said the commission would, in due course, issue a public notice as to how it would conduct its work.
