A prominent communications officer, who was alleged to have imported marijuana was discharged by Magistrate Deepika Prakash on Monday.

She walked out of the Magistrates Court in Suva a free person.

Debrah Annette Kushil Singh, 52, was arrested at the Suva Post Office upon receiving a consignment from the United States of America allegedly containing two candles with marijuana.

The contents of the parcel were tested and proved positive for illicit drugs.

The charges:

Singh was charged with unlawful possession of illicit drugs: It was alleged that Singh on August 5, 2019, at Suva, without lawful authority was found in possession of 1.1 grams of illicit drugs namely cannabis sativa.

And it was alleged that Singh on August 5, 2019, at Suva, without lawful authority imported 1.1 grams of illicit drugs namely cannabis sativa.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions withdrew the charges laid against Singh.
