Compassionate Pass Upon Recommendation for Accident Victims

The 17 students of Naitasiri Secondary School who were involved in an accident on Monday will receive a compassionate pass upon the necessary reports and recommendations from the Sub Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) Naitasiri and the Head of School (HoS).

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro confirmed this yesterday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said the driver had allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road, resulting in the accident.

The accident happened at Navuniyasi Village Saumakia Junction in Naitasiri.

The students who suffered injuries were rushed to the Vunidawa Hospital for medical treatment.

“At this point, no information can be released on the details about the probable cause of the accident, as police officers are still conducting investigations,” Mr Radrodro said.

“Compassionate Pass for the students will be activated following the necessary reports and recommendations from the Sub Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) Naitasiri and the Head of School (HoS).”

Compensation

Mr Radrodro revealed that students would be encouraged to lodge claims with the Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF).

“Based on the Police and Medical Report, the Head of School will assist the affected students, parents and guardians to fill and lodge claims with Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF) accordingly,” he said.

“We encourage parents, guardians, teachers and students to remain informed and proactive in prioritising safety to prevent future incidents.

“This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the strength of our community.”

Mr Radrodro said the ministry stood together in support of the students, their families, and all those affected.
