Turaga na Tui Bua, Ratu Makutu Nagagavoka, is urging the Government to prioritise funding for stalled and incomplete projects in the 2026-2027 National Budget before committing to new developments.
After visiting districts across Bua Province, Ratu Makutu said many projects remained unfinished, were progressing slowly, or were awaiting the release of funding and resources.
“Considering the challenges facing the country, including the global fuel crisis, poverty, rural-to-urban migration and shortages of labour and resources, we should focus on completing existing projects before starting new ones,” he said.

“There are many communities without roads, bridges, crossings, clean water, health facilities, schools and access to other basic services.”
Ratu Makutu said completing long-awaited projects would have a direct impact on the quality of life of people living in the province and other rural areas.
“Bua Province is far from the main towns and cities and has been waiting patiently,” he said.
“The Government should also consider improving the living conditions of people in rural and remote areas.”
He said Government should focus on delivering projects already promised and underway before allocating funds for new initiatives.
“Once outstanding projects were completed, then allocation of funds for new projects should commence.”
