The Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua has again reiterated the urgency to appoint a new Commissioner of Police.
The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) is yet to convene to discuss and make a formal recommendation to President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere for the suitable candidate.
Mr Tikoduadua, who has been vocal on this has reiterated the essence of making a substantive appointment to the position as it deals with national security.

“It’s the matter of the COC when they are ready they’ll tell me about the commissioner they have appointed, hopefully soon,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
“In the past, this is not my first comment that I have implored the COC to act quickly because the appointment of a commissioner is essential to national security.
“But that is the work of an independent commission and I respect that, for the reasons that there are, but I hope we can get a new commissioner soon,” Mr Tikoduadua.
Prime Minister and chair of COC, Sitiveni Rabuka, confirmed that COC has still yet to reconvene as the Leader of Opposition Inia Seruiratu is out of the country.
Mr Seruiratu left on Thursday to attend the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
Mr Seruiratu will be away for 10 days accompanying the Speaker of Parliament Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.
Members of the COC include Mr Rabuka, Government representative Jon Apted, Cema Bolabola, Mr Seruiratu, Opposition representative Tupou Draunidalo and Attorney-General Graham Leung.
