COMPOL to be named today: PM

Following the presentation of the panel, COC is expected to recommend the successful name to the President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

The Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) will meet today to receive the successful candidate for the Commissioner of Police (COMPOL).

Prime Minister and COC chairperson, Sitiveni Rabuka, revealed this masthead yesterday.

Last month, the COC convened to endorse the appointment of an independent selection panel to assess and shortlist applicants for the position of COMPOL on behalf of the Commission.

Mr Rabuka said it was this panel that would present to the COC at the meeting its assessment report.

“That will be done tomorrow (today) at the COC meeting,” the Prime Minister said.

Following the presentation of the panel, COC is expected to recommend the successful name to the President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

COC acts as an adviser to the President on the appointment of the;

  • Chair and members of the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission;
  • Chair and members of the Electoral Commission;
  • The Supervisor of Elections;
  • Parliament Secretary General;
  • Public Service Commission Chair and members;
  • Police Commissioner;
  • Fiji Correction Services Commissioner;
  • Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander;
  • Auditor General and
  • Reserve Bank Governor.
