A contingency plan was activated today to clear Nadi Town of debris in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Vaianu.
Nadi Town Council staff and contractors, who were initially scattered during the storm, regrouped and were out in force clearing and cleaning streets and business areas ahead of the reopening tomorrow.
Town special administrator Salacieli Raiwalui said work was progressing across key zones despite ongoing challenges.

“Clearing and cleaning is underway in various zones in the township,” Mr Raiwalui said.
“We note that power is still off in several localities, including parts of the town this yesterday, but our teams are on the ground and focused.”
Their priority is to restore access and ensure businesses can operate safely. Mr Raiwalui expects the town to be ready for business today.
He said the council would continue working around the clock including the Nadi - Namaka and Airport corridor.
“We will push through whatever is required to reopen as quickly as possible. The safety of the public comes first,” he said.
Communities across Nadi have also stepped in to support clean-up efforts.
In Sabeto Village, residents who were spared flooding said strong winds left debris scattered across homes and roads.
Resident Charlie Lumuni said villagers moved quickly.
“Everyone came out early to clear the debris and help each other,” he said. “We are thankful there was no flooding here, but the damage from the winds shows how serious the system was.”
The focus now is on recovery. “We just want to get things back to normal as soon as possible,” Mr Lumuni said.
