Convicted Rapist, Jone Cokanauto Laid To Rest

Leader of Jezreel Lion of Judah, Jone Cokanauto who was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo in 2017 was laid to rest at Welagi, Taveuni on Sunday.

Cokanauto died after a short illness on April 16 at the age of 60.

He was convicted of five counts of rape, four counts of indecent assault, and one count of attempted rape.

Fiji Corrections Service Public Relations officer Jone Kalouniviti confirmed that Cokanauto had a heart problem and was in hospital  for one week before he died.

A relative who spoke at his memorial service said Cokanauto was a selfless man.

“He was a man who gave his life, his treasure, and his time when it comes to the vanua. He was a man with a vision,” he said.
