The Fiji Corrections Services (FCS) Job Evaluation Exercise (JEE) has identified 81 new jobs in the administration, technical and ranking officer positions.
The JEE was approved by Cabinet and endorsed by Parliament through the national budget provisions for this financial year.
Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga informed Parliament yesterday that no traditional promotions or demotions will be condoned.
Mr Turaga reiterated that the concepts of promotion and demotion, as traditionally understood, no longer apply.
He said movement up or down, the rank structure is determined by the post an officer is transferred to, based on performance and organisational needs.
“The realignment of the organisation structure incorporates the update of Human Resources policies and the identification of personnel with the inclusion of 81 new posts over the next three financial years,” Mr Turaga said.
“There has been a constant need to readjust, correctly realign the pay structure to the experience, qualification and the demands of the role.”
The last time a JEE was conducted was about 40 years ago.
Mr Turaga said the JEE has enabled the organisation identify job descriptions for different officer roles.
“An organisational chart has been developed to reflect new positions,” Mr Turaga said.
“This was something that was not done in the previous administration.”
