The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has announced a new Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy aimed at strengthening the professional conduct and integrity of its officers and staff.

The policy underlines the need for personnel to maintain high ethical standards and demonstrate behaviour that upholds the organisation's reputation.

The proposed policy will introduce clear guidelines on conduct within marital and committed relationships, with a specific emphasis on curbing extramarital affairs that could damage the FCS's public image.

It will also set expectations for professional behaviour both in and outside the workplace, acknowledging that FCS officers are held to a high standard of public trust.

FCS Commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa stated that the initiative reflects the service's commitment to upholding professionalism, integrity, and public confidence.

"Integrity in personal relationships is not merely a private matter for FCS staff; it directly affects public perception of the service," said Commissioner Nakarawa.

"This policy clearly outlines our expectation that officers must demonstrate ethical behaviour in both their personal and professional lives."

The policy is currently under review and will undergo consultations before its formal adoption.

Once implemented, breaches could result in disciplinary actions ranging from counselling and reprimands to suspension or dismissal, depending on the severity of the offence.

Additionally, the policy will incorporate support mechanisms, such as counselling services, for employees facing personal challenges.

This inclusion highlights FCS's dedication to staff welfare while reinforcing the highest standards of conduct.

The Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy will apply to all FCS employees and will focus on several key areas, including marital and relationship integrity, professional behaviour in the workplace, and maintaining a positive public image.
