Cost of living is determined by regulatory bodies that monitor global trends and not the Government, says Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad.

He called on the media to stop reporting on rumours or give limelight to non-productive issues.

Mr Prasad was speaking during the joint Land Taskforce Consultation at Nadogo College in Macuata, yesterday.

“Don’t formulate your questions based on rumours,” Mr Prasad said.

He said the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) had a constitutional role to look at the pricing mechanism.

“Prices are determined by global trends (international prize movement) similar to fuel where prices fluctuate,” he said.

Exodus of nurses Mr Prasad said any increase in nurse’s wage scale was accommodated in the 2023-2024 National Budget announcement this year.

He said the budget laid out a step-up in the wages of nurse’s and “that’s done”.
