The Labasa Town Council is exploring the possibility of hosting the Fiji Football Association’s (Fiji FA) FMF Inter District Championship (IDC) tournament.
Council special administrator’s chairperson, Paul Jaduram, made the comment after Extra Supermarket Labasa football team won this year’s IDC tournament in Lautoka.
Jaduram told SUNsports, that if Fiji FA considered their request, it would be the perfect time since Labasa last hosted the IDC in 1975.

“That’ll be 50 years,” he said.
The other time Labasa hosted the IDC was in 1969.
Jaduram said Fiji FA has a requirement that must be met before the tournament could be brought to Labasa.
This requirement, he says, is to have two and half playing pitch available at Subrail Park.
This is because close to 20 district teams will be participating in the competition, which will be in three divisions.
He said the main ground would be used for the Super Premier competition while the Premier and Senior division games could be played in ground 2.
The extra half pitch would be used for training and warm-up purposes.
Jaduram said the recent constructed Fiji FA Labasa Academy has two standard pitches, which could be alternate venues for premier and senior games.
“Despite the hosting request, the council is also looking at 2026 to get the IDC tournament back to Labasa,” he said.
Jaduram is also the former president of Labasa FA.
“I will try my best to bring the IDC back to Labasa,” he added.
Apart from the tournament, he also highlighted the financial potential of hosting the tournament.
This is where football fans from Viti Levu and abroad would travel and spend, which in turns boost the town’s economy during the week-long tournament.
