The plans to upgrade its municipal facilities and develop the Lions Park to high standard, incorporating beautification projects and public services.

Council special administrator Samuela Ligairi said they aimed to transform the park into a hub of activities where residents and visitors could relax and enjoy their leisure time.

The council has engaged in several projects this year aimed at providing services to the community. More than 20 sitting benches have been erected in key spots throughout the town.

“We are committed to providing the best service to our people,” he said.

Mr Ligairi added that, apart from beautification and upgrades of municipal parks, it was also the responsibility of residents to look after these facilities. He stressed the importance of proper rubbish disposal to avoid littering.

Several closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras have been installed around town monitor litterbugs.

He also called on corporate entities to participate in council-led clean-up campaigns and to conduct their own clean-ups at least once a month.

“This will enhance the cleanliness of the township and encourage more visitors,” he said.
