The swift action of Savusavu Town Council (STC) workers prevented a number of shops in the town from being hit with floodwaters.
The floodwaters were the result of heavy rain on Wednesday night.
The town council’s chief executive officer, Seema Dutt, said this was the first time a heavy downpour had led to their drainage chambers overflowing.

Ms Dutt said they would continue to create awareness on littering issues affecting their municipality.
Council enforcement officers would monitor and fine litter bugs.
“Our council is always committed to ensuring properties and amenities within the town vicinity are taken care of and safe from any severe damage,” she said.
