Couple and child killed in early morning Nadi fire
The victims have been identified as Ziyaad Ali, 29, his wife, Zakiya Bibi, 27, and their two-year-old son, Mohammed Ali Hussein.

A young couple and their two-year-old son died in a tragic house fire at Mulomulo, Nadi, in the early hours of this morning.
The victims have been identified as Ziyaad Ali, 29, his wife, Zakiya Bibi, 27, and their son, Mohammed Ali Hussein.
According to relatives, the blaze is believed to have started from a nearby sugarcane field before engulfing the family’s five-bedroom corrugated iron home, which was completely destroyed.

Eight people were inside the house when the fire broke out. Five managed to escape, while the couple and their child were trapped inside.
The fire is believed to have started between 3am and 4am.

When The Fiji Sun visited the scene, distraught relatives and neighbours gathered outside the burnt remains of the home, waiting for the Lautoka forensic team to arrive and recover the bodies.
A grieving family member said the tragedy unfolded in moments of chaos and panic.
“My cousin, brother-in-law, and their two-year-old child are still inside,” the relative said.
“We don’t know the exact cause, only that it started from the nearby sugarcane field. They were all awake. Everyone ran out, but their son ran back inside looking for his parents — and that’s when the parents went back in.”
Police and National Fire Authority officers are investigating the cause of the fire.
