Couple Work Under PALM For Family Stability

Jiulia Vueta will join her hus­band in Australia in a bid to save money for their future.

They are both under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme.

She travelled all the way from Moa­la, Lau on Tuesday just to be on time for her training with the National Employment Centre before she goes overseas.

The 25-year-old admitted that it would be difficult leaving her daugh­ter behind, but her sacrifice would earn her a better future and educa­tion opportunities.

The family of three lives in Lau where they farm for a living.

“We have a daughter who is five years old and she means the world to us,” she said.

“My husband started with the scheme about four years ago and his trip overseas has seen the light of day.

“When he came back, we were able to renovate our house and buy things we could not afford before,” she said.

Ms Vueta will work in a sweet po­tato farm for nine months where her husband also works.

Their daughter will be staying with a relative while they are away.

Ms Vueta applied for the scheme in 2020.

Meanwhile, 286 Fijians were fare­welled on Friday by the Minister for Employment, Parveen Bala. They made up the largest number of Fiji­ans to be sent for the scheme by Gov­ernment so far.
