In light of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Lautoka City Council is maintaining a spotless environment for its residents.

On a daily basis a group of workers are spread throughout the city to see that the main areas used by the public - the Lautoka Bus Station and the Lautoka Market for example - are kept clean throughout the day.

The work done by the employees include the daily street sweeping, grass cutting and drain clearing, cleaning of the market, the Sugar City Mall and the sanitisation of the vendors tables and the bus station seats.

“Covid-19 awareness visits were done with the distribution of circulars for food shops like eateries, bakeries, warehouses and supermarkets and this will be continued,” a statement from the council read.

“The Council, in partnership with other Government agencies and Civil Society Organisation Groups, conducted an awareness programme for to the general public.

“Emphasis has been placed on maintenance of good hygiene practices through the provision of washroom facilities, hand washing facilities, and the sanitising of contact surfaces.”

The Council is also keen in continuing this good work in the city.
