Sophie Abi is hopeful to receive the $1000 from Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) as it would help her family through this difficult time.

The mother of three was one of those in the tourism industry affected by Coronavirus.

The 38-year-old said it has been a tough time for her family.

“I am thankful for the assistance but I think the $1000 is not enough for us,” Ms Abi said.

“There are five of us in the family and since I am staying at home now things have not been looking good for us,” she said.

“I came here on Tuesday and they asked me to go to my boss because the form will go to him before I fill it. We went to the boss and there was no form so we came today (Wednesday) again.

“I am hoping to get the grant because it will help my family go through this tough time.”

Ms Abi said her husband is the only breadwinner in her family at the moment.

“My husband has been a taxi driver for the past 12 years and the owner never deducted his FNPF,” she said.

“My husband is still driving but not able to make much. He can be earning $20 a day and that’s not enough and we can’t survive on that amount.

“I think the grant is not enough so I am looking at other options like cooking and selling or working on the farm.”

Ms Abi lives with her family in Navua.
