COVID-19: RFMF Contingency Plan In Place Despite 4 Medics Positive

As part of the Republic of Fiji Mili­tary Forces (RFMF) contingency plan, two separate bubbles were al­ready in place to mitigate yesterday’s sce­nario where four of the RFMF’s medical personnel tested positive for COVID-19.

Commander RFMF, Rear Admiral Vil­iame Naupoto confirmed that the two bub­bles are based out of Ratu Sukuna Memo­rial School and Nabua Secondary School.

The medical personnel were moved to the intensive care unit at the Queen Elizabeth barracks, adjacent to their place of em­ployment, the RFMF George Mate Medical Center (GMMC).

Rear Admiral Naupoto says they will con­tinue to support the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 operation.

Yesterday the Queen Elizabeth barracks was cordoned off as decontamination work began.

He said: “We had done contact tracing and isolation of primary contacts and we are disinfecting areas including our hospi­tal.”

The medical centre is expected to reopen on Thursday.

“Our level of support to the whole opera­tion remains as we have been working in bubbles and creating bubbles in anticipa­tion of cases within.

“We remain overly cautious because we are at the frontline all the time.”

He pleaded with the RFMF family to con­tinue to adhere to COVID-safe protocols. “Please limit your movement and do so - only for necessary purposes.

“These are your mothers and fathers at the frontline and the best help you can do is to adhere to the Ministry of Health di­rectives.”

RFMF medical personnel who are out­side the QEB bubble will man operations at the camp over the next 14 days.

Until Thursday, RFMF staff and families who may need medical attention should visit a health centre closest to them.
