The Rotaract Club of Suva handed over an ultrasound system to the anaesthesia and Intensive Care Department (ICU) of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, Suva last week.

The donation was organised by Melbourne-based Rotarian and former lecturer of the Fiji National University, Dr John Salmon, with the support of Suva Rotaractor, Clifford Smith, of Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd.

Appreciation

While receiving the donated system, CWM Hospital’s ICU clinical lead, Dr Anisi Kavoa, expressed gratitude for the much-needed machine, which will greatly assist patients not only in the ICU but also in several other departments in the east wing of the hospital.

Rotaract Club of Suva president, Margret Savou, said that the donations were part of an ongoing initiative to support the hospital in addressing capacity constraints to better serve its patients.

She added that the handover was the culmination of collaborative efforts between various partners and credited Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd for its logistical support.

Equipment boost

Earlier in the year, under the leadership of former president Kelera Kuboutawa, the club also provided a respiratory monitor, dispersers, teaching displays and monitoring devices.

Additionally, another ultrasound system was provided to the obstetrics and gynaecology department with the Club’s assistance last year.

The Rotaract Club of Suva was chartered on October 23, 1970 by the Rotary Club of Suva and is the oldest Rotaract Club in the South Pacific.

Rotaract clubs bring together people ages 18 and older to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun through service.
