Cyclone Tino: Savusavu Town Ready For Big Storm

Business houses and people of Savusavu Town were yesterday preparing in advance for a likely cyclone.
Cakaudrove provincial administrator, Setareki Dakuiboca, said they wanted to ensure everyone was safe when the storm hits Vanua Levu today.
“We are preparing essential items and getting our operation in place for TD04F,” Mr Dakuiboca said.

For Taveuni, the district officer has briefed all government heads of departments about the operations.
“We’re expecting a call from the Commissioner Northern’s office who will declare the operations to be activated,” Mr Dakuiboca said.
“We will be working within our resources together with the Police and Ministry of Health as part of our operation.
“There will be 222 evacuation centers spread across Cakaudrove province. Mainly community halls and schools,” he said.
Mr Dakuiboca has advised people of Cakaudrove to make use of the evacuation centers available to them and ensure their personal safety by securing their house, livestock, boats, and yachts.
The centres are in Savusavu- 95, Taveuni 44, Tukavesi 36, Saqani 47.
Meanwhile, businesses in Savusavu were also preparing for the cyclone.
Business consultant, Paul Mcdonell, said they were busy preparing for the storm because they don’t want a repeat of the damage left by TC Winston.
Mr Mcdonell said they were securing buildings and putting up the shutters.
