Dad Laments Death Of One-Year-Old Son

Tomasi Fabiano could not accept that his only son, Waisake Cakacaka was no longer alive.
Mr Fabiano, 33, lost his one- year-old son who allegedly drowned in a pond at Votualevu, Nadi, on March 20.
Mr Fabiano said his son was following him around on the day of the incident.

He said his son was believed to have drowned while playing with other boys near a pond close to the house.
“My son was a happy, active child and full of life. He always wanted to do everything I did,” Mr Fabiano said.
“On the day of the incident, he kept following me around so I made a swing to keep him occupied so that I could attend to my work in the farm.
“I cannot believe he is gone.”
Mr Fabiano said he tried his best to revive him, but it was unsuccessful.
“I think the pain of losing my only son will take time to heal,” he added.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the one-year-old victim had accompanied his father to the farm.
While tending to their sheep his son had allegedly wandered off and was later found floating in a fish pond.
Police investigation into the incident continues.
Woman drowns
Meanwhile, a statement from Police said a 29-year-old woman was found near the Wainimala
River at Botenaulu in Naitasiri. The victim from Gusuniwai Settlement was last seen leaving her home to bathe in the nearby river and when she failed to return a search was conducted where she was found
lying motionless nearby. Health officials have confirmed that the victim is a
known epileptic patient, however a post mortem will still be conducted to confirm the cause of death.
The drowning death toll currently stands at nine compared to nine for the same period last year.
