Daveta Defies All Odds to Earn Degree

Diane Daveta, 25, a graduate from the University of the South Pacific (USP), defied all odds to earn her Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Tourism and Hospitality Management Degree.
She is from Nawaka, Nadi, and raised in Solevu, Malolo Island in the Mamanuca Group.
Ms Daveta’s road to graduation was long and difficult, especially after the death of her grandparents, who were her biggest motivators.

“Losing my grandparents was not easy,” she said.
“They were my support system. They always encouraged me to be successful one day.”
Despite the loss, Ms Daveta found strength in her faith and mother.
“I am thankful to God and my mom. With their support, I was able to continue my studies.”
Diane’s mother, a single parent, worked hard to provide for her family, and it was her sacrifices that inspired her daughter.

Ms Daveta is not only the first graduate in her family. She is also the first entrepreneur with a degree.
“It means a lot to me. Being the eldest, I want to set a good example for my siblings,” she says, her eyes shining with pride.
The graduation is a testament of her resilience, the unwavering love of her mother, and the memory of her grandparents. She has proven that with faith, determination, and hard work, anything is possible.
