Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka, on Friday commissioned three Government projects in Wainimoliura Settlement in Navunikabi and Wainimakutu Village in Namosi.

This is in the Coalition’s Government’s bid to address pressing water needs and promote sustainable development in rural communities.

Mr Ditoka also engaged with local communities, addressing both development challenges and opportunities during talanoa sessions.

At Wainimoliura, Mr Ditoka commissioned a $5,942.00 water project designed to meet the needs of a settlement predominantly consisting of residents relocated from the village of Navunikabi.

“These residents had been relying on a nearby creek for their water supply, accentuating the necessity for government intervention,” Mr Ditoka said.

“Fortunately, with the support provided in the current financial year, the Ministry facilitated the establishment of a reliable water supply, significantly improving the quality of life for the affected residents,” he said.

Reflection

Reflecting on past experiences, Mr Ditoka encouraged the incorporation of ecological purification systems (EPS) in all future water projects to mitigate the risk of consuming contaminated water.

“This is something I will constantly challenge ministry staff to consistently adopt, as it is important to integrate such systems early in the project planning process,” emphasised Mr Ditoka.

“Interacting and engaging with local communities highlighted our shared dedication to collaborative efforts, working hand in hand to drive positive change and secure a better future for all Fijians.”

“These initiatives go beyond infrastructure; they are a testament to our collective vision for inclusive progress and prosperity in every corner of our nation.”
