With Diwali days away, traditional Indian clothing boutique, Taprobana, at Suva’s Garden City is a popular spot.

The name Taprobana was inspired from a Sri Lankan, said operations manager Zulfikar Ali.

While Sri Lanka was known during British Rule as Ceylon, going further back into ancient Greek times, the island was referred to as Taprobana.

“We just opened our business last year and opened another branch in Nakasi three months ago and we are doing great especially on this Diwali new stocks, promotions and discounts,” he said.

Mr Ali said traditional attires were imported from India which gave a good look for the festival and other occasions like weddings.

“We are trying to be different and unique from other markets to give variety options to consumers.”

He also said  the prices on new stock traditional were affordable for everyday shopping and for markets who could afford expensive clothing.

“People enter and think this is an expensive shop due to the set up, but we cater to all types of customers and give them good discounts for festive seasons,” Mr Ali said.

He said customers expected something new for a festive event and new stocks would give them something new.

“We also have other ethnic groups coming to shop with us.”
