As we approach Diwali, the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources is advising the public that fireworks can only be used from 5pm to 12am on November 1.

The arranged time is to cater for legal safety for children and the surrounding.

The ministry has advised that fireworks are classified under the United Nation Hazard Classification System as Class 13 and 14, which means adult supervision should be high when allowing children play with fireworks.

Homemade fireworks like bamboo guns are deemed illegal and only those above the age of 18 years old are allowed to buy fireworks.

Parents and adults are advised to refrain from smoking or drinking when handling fireworks.

As well as that, fireworks are to be lit outside of homes, away from buildings, vehicles overhead obstructions and fire hazards.
