In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the Golden Age Home in Samabula, Suva, celebrated Diwali with its elderly residents, bringing joy and togetherness to the festival of lights.

The celebrations took place on Friday and was organised by staff members and care-givers.

The event was part of the home’s ongoing enrichment programmes, designed to uplift residents’ spirits and create moments of connection during cultural and festive occasions.

Residents were treated to a festive lunch accompanied by Diwali sweets, a thoughtful gesture that brought the flavours of the festival to the home.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Fiji Corrections Services Band performed live music, bringing smiles and adding rhythm to the celebrations.

The event also featured vibrant cultural dances by performers from the Indian High Commission’s Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, showcasing traditional Diwali performances that filled the space with color and energy.

Director of Social Protection Veremo Muria expressed the importance of the celebration for the residents.

“Our residents deserve to experience the joy and warmth of Diwali,” Mr Veremo said.

“This celebration not only honours the rich cultural heritage of our community but also brings our residents together, creating cherished memories and strengthening bonds with their carers.”
