The ruling on the application to order Ajay Kumar to provide a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sample will be made on September 26.

This is in the case of murder-accused Kumar, who is charged with count of murder. The application was made by the state at the High Court in Lautoka.

Kumar is alleged to have murdered his de facto partner Saleshni Devi on September 15, 2021.

It is alleged that Kumar caused the death of Saleshni Devi after the vehicle she was in went down a cliff in Teidamu, Lautoka.

The matter was heard before High Court Judge, Justice Riyaz Hamza on Wednesday and Kumar was represented by Iqbal Khan of Iqbal Khan and Associates while the state was represented by Sheenal Swastika.

The state filed the respective application four weeks ago to which Mr Khan had strongly objected, based on it being a violation of Kumar’s rights.

Ms Swastika told the court that the matter was at the stage for the pretrial conference checklist. Justice Hamza adjourned the matter for ruling to the respective date and extended bail for Kumar.
