A donated assistive walker has transformed her life, restoring her independence, dignity and hope for the future.
Speaking at a handover event as a member of the refugee community alliance, Ms Taufa shared her journey, describing how her mobility condition made everyday activities such as walking to church, attending trainings and moving around her home extremely difficult.

She said these challenges often left her feeling isolated and dependent, a reality faced by many people with disabilities. Despite this, she remained hopeful that independence could be achieved with the right support.
That turning point came when she received a walker donated by Vision Net UK through the Refugee Mobility Alliance.
“This walker is more than just a piece of equipment; it is my doorway to independence,” Ms Taufa said.
With the assistive device, she can now move safely and confidently, attend meetings without fear of falling and reconnect with friends, family and community activities.
She said it has also restored her sense of dignity and strengthened her determination to pursue further studies.
Ms Taufa said her story is not only her own, but reflects what is possible when partnerships, compassion and support systems come together to empower people with disabilities.
She expressed thanked the Vision Net UK, the Vodafone ATH Foundation, the British High Commission and the Refugee Mobility Alliance for their support, and acknowledged national leadership for its commitment to the disability sector.
She said assistive devices should not be seen as luxuries, but as essential lifelines that restore independence and opportunity.
Her journey now stands as a testament to resilience and a reminder that with the right support, disability does not mean inability.
