The Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Padmaja, has requested Fijian students studying in India not to panic about the information they have been receiving on COVID-19. She said this was concerning an advisory to those who had made arrangements to return to their home nations.

“It was for those countries who are sending flights to evacuate their people.”

Ms Padmaja said if there was an emergency they would help their students who are studying in India.

This came after a document was issued in New Delhi on April 16, by the Deputy Director General (Education) Namrata Kumar, on COVID-19. It stated that foreign students on their own and with the help of their respective embassies would be allowed to return to their countries upon intimation from their institution and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

However, this is subject to approval from the concerned institution and cannot be guaranteed by ICCR.
