Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has made a direct plea to all Fijians to stop spreading misinformation about the country's fuel situation.

Addressing the nation last night, Mr Rabuka said: “We are ensuring that there will be a single, clear source of information so that the public can stay informed and avoid misinformation.”

He also warned that false information is making an already serious situation worse.

“I ask everyone to rely on official updates and act responsibly.”

Mr Rabuka also pleaded with all Fijians to pray for peace in the world and for the safety of Fijians overseas.

He urges Fijians to reduce electricity home, and switch to solar lighting where possible.

"Fuel remains available. There is no immediate shortage," Mr Rabuka said adding, "this is not a time to panic – it is a time to prepare."
