Minister for Finance Biman Prasad says, the upcoming National Budget will bring good news for all Fijians— without any major surprises.

Speaking to the Fiji Sun following a groundbreaking ceremony at Vunimono High School on Tuesday, Mr Prasad said preparations for the 2025–2026 National Budget are progressing well, with a focus on stability and resilience.

“There will be no big surprises, but there will be good news in the budget for everybody,” Mr Prasad said.

Government is building on the strong foundation laid in the past two budgets, especially in light of global economic headwinds such as conflicts in the Middle East and Europe.

“This will be a budget that anticipates those headwinds. We’ll be mindful to ensure our domestic policies cushion the impact of a global economic slowdown,” he said.

Mr Prasad highlighted that Fiji’s economy is expected to grow by around 4 per cent in 2024—well above the initial 2.8 per cent forecast—crediting sound fiscal management and effective policies.

“We’ve raised more revenue, controlled the deficit, and brought down the debt-to-GDP ratio. That has put us in a strong position to increase expenditure and manage the deficit responsibly,” he said.

He said Government remained committed to ensuring economic growth translated to benefits for citizens, with investments in essential sectors and development.
