The memorial service of former Fijian academic Professor Brij Lal, 69, who died in Australia.
Some 50 people gathered at the Jai Narayan College Hall yesterday for the memorial service of former Fijian academic Professor Brij Lal, 69, who died in Australia.
Mr Lal, who had become an Australian citizen, was a historian and researcher who wrote several books on the Indian Diaspora.
He was from Tabia in Labasa and was married to fellow academic Padma Lal.

Mr Lal was Emeritus Professor of Pacific and Asian History at the School of Culture, History and Language at Australia National University.

Mr Rabuka said Mr Lal was a man who had Fiji at heart and he thought of him as one who was brave and committed.
“He loved Fiji so much that he devoted his entire life to the pursuit of knowledge which he turned and committed to writing books, volumes of journals, addresses and lectures.”
