The Dreketi temporary market in Vanua Levu is nearing its completion.
Maciu Nalumisa, the Minister for Local Government, said Dreketi was a common stopover for travelers between Nabouwalu and Labasa. Therefore, the ongoing upgrade was both appropriate and beneficial.
“The purpose of the temporary market is to provide a secure and safe market with proper convenience,” Mr Nalumisa said.

“The market has long been abandoned when it comes to upgrade and maintenance effort.”
There are two phases to this project.
Mr Nalumisa said the initial phase involves the construction of 45 stalls, along with restroom facilities and the installation of a substantial water tank.
“The remaining stall is currently undergoing necessary work, including plumbing, electrical wiring, the establishment of washroom facilities, and the construction of a ramp to accommodate disabled market users.
