The Consumer Council of Fiji is warning those who want to learn how to drive to do proper research before engaging with driving schools.
This was after it received numerous complaints from consumers.
Complaints range from driving schools failing to deliver the contracted number of lessons, instructors exhibiting rude and unprofessional behaviour, arbitrary cancellations and rescheduling of lessons causing inconvenience and disruption.

Other complaints involved driving schools accepting payments for manual licence lessons but providing lessons for automatic licences instead, or unexpectedly requesting additional fees mid-course.
The council remains committed to protecting consumer rights and holding businesses accountable.
Council chief executive officer Seema Shandil said consumers had the right to expect transparency, professionalism, and reliability when engaging with driving schools.
“The reported cases of misconduct, including incomplete services and unprofessional behaviour are clear violations of consumer rights,” she said.
