A new trend of drug trafficking has been identified where traffickers impersonate pastors, and old women to bypass Fiji border officers.
Minister for Immigration and Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua said this has become a new challenge for police and border officers.
Mr Tikoduadua said these traffickers often transit and enter through the country’s international airports with drugs.

“Some of them impersonating as a italatala (pastor), impersonating as an old woman to take advantage of everything,” Mr Tikoduadua said.
“They come in different outlooks all the time, we just need to make sure we catch them.
Mr Tikoduadua has commended the country’s disciplinary officials who shield the country’s border from drug trafficking.
“So, I’ll continue to appeal to the public out there, this national action plan against drugs is everyone’s responsibility.
The responsibility is not just for the police, and business people, I mean some of them have the resources to do this effectively.”
