An evacuation centre was the safest place for 73-year-old year grandmother, Litia Qaloua and her 11 grandchildren.
Ms Qaloua lives with her grandchildren at the Nawaijikuma Settlement in Nadi and their home has often been flooded during a heavy rain.
Originally from Batiki, the widow helped his son who is a single father look after the children.

“My son is former hotel worker and now he is without a job. We are thankful for the support that we received from religious organisations and a non-governmental organisations (NGO).”
She said that on early Friday morning she was the first person to be present at the evacuation centre at Andrews Primary School.
“The settlement that we live in is always flooded during adverse weather. I always get my grandchildren ready when there is a heavy rain and also when we hear warning of flash flooding on the radio,” Ms Qaloua said.
“I am always worried about my grandchildren and on Friday morning we were the first people to be in this evacuation centre. I prepared everything for us before we came.”
The mother of seven children said the love and the joy she shares with her grandchildren has kept her going stronger every day.
Another evacuee Ulamila Natabua said all her family members had moved to the school because their house was flooded.
