The Fiji Women’s Rights Movement (FWRM) is disappointed with the way the appointment for the Permanent Secretary position for the Ministry of Education was handled by its Minister and union representatives.
Selina Kuruleca was appointed by the Public Services Commission (PSC). She was due to begin work on July 3.
FWRM said the way the appointment was handled by Minister Aseri Radrodro, was an act that not only undermines the qualifications and capabilities of Ms Kuruleca - a professional woman in her own right - but also the decision made by PSC.

“We are disappointed with this turn of events. In the line-up of new PS appointments, we only have three women. Ms Kuruleca has contributed immensely to the fields of teaching and mental health. Why is she not the right candidate for the PS role? This reek of gender bias.” FWRM Executive Director Nalini Singh said.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said Ms Kuruleca would be transferred to another ministry.
However, last night he confirmed that Mr Radrodro had no choice but to work with Ms Kuruleca.
Ms Kuruleca is willing to work with Mr Radrodro for the sake of the children and teachers of Fiji.
““I look forward to working with Mr Radrodro and I hope everything gets sorted, that is my plea,” Ms Kuruleca said.
