Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated today after moon sighting
The League said the new moon for the month of Shawwal 1447H had been sighted, signalling the conclusion of the holy fasting month.

The Fiji Muslim League has confirmed that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated today, following the sighting of the new moon marking the end of Ramadan.
In an official announcement issued on Friday, the League said the new moon for the month of Shawwal 1447H had been sighted, signalling the conclusion of the holy fasting month.
“As a result, Eid-ul-Fitr will Insha Allah be celebrated on Saturday, March 21, 2026,” the statement read.

The President of the Fiji Muslim League, Haji Bashir Ahmed, has extended warm Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to Muslims in Fiji and abroad, calling for unity, compassion, and continued service to the community.
In his Eid message, Mr Ahmed said the end of Ramadan marked not only a time of celebration, but also reflection on the values strengthened during the holy month.
“Ramadan is always a sacred month of spiritual renewal, reflection, and devotion,” he said.
“Through fasting, we have been reminded of the struggles faced by those less fortunate and the enduring importance of self-discipline, compassion, humility, and generosity.”
He said Eid-ul-Fitr was also a powerful reminder of unity, bringing together families, neighbours, and communities.
“It is an opportunity for all Fijians to embrace shared values of peace, harmony, compassion, and togetherness,” Mr Ahmed said.
He urged members of the community to continue caring for those in need through acts of charity and to foster understanding, kindness, and solidarity.
“As we celebrate with our loved ones, let us also remember our pioneers and ancestors whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the growth and prosperity of our community in Fiji.”
Looking ahead, Mr Ahmed highlighted the upcoming centennial celebrations of the Fiji Muslim League, describing it as a historic milestone.
The celebrations are expected to begin in Nadi in August 2026 and continue in the Central Division in October, bringing together members from across Fiji and abroad to mark 100 years of faith, education, resilience, and service.
Mr Ahmed also acknowledged those who continue to contribute selflessly to the advancement of the Muslim community.
“Your dedication remains the cornerstone of our collective success,” he said.
He concluded with a prayer for continued blessings, peace, and prosperity for all.
