Eight political parties indicate interest

There are currently eight new reserved political parties that have expressed interest in registering as a party for the 2026 General Elections.
Supervisor of Election Ana Mataiciwa clarified with this masthead yesterday that the interested eight have just expressed interest in getting groundwork to formally apply to register as a party.
“We have not registered any proposed political parties but once we received confirmation of applications then we will be able to inform our fellow Fijians to be aware,” Ms Mataiciwa said.

“We will be able to share more of this once they move forward to get registrations in terms of the requirement of the proposed party.”
Nine political parties contested the 2022 general elections.
According to the Fijian Elections Office, the proposed political party must have at least 5000 members – 2000 from the Central Division, 1750 members from the Western Division, 1000 members from the Northern Division and 250 members from the Eastern Division.
