Fijians have until April 14, 2022, to upgrade their voter cards during the nationwide voter registration drive.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem encouraged Fijians to make use of the nationwide voter registration drive.

“Till to date, 16,474 new voters have registered. When we close the drive on April 14, we hope that as many Fijians as possible have managed to upgrade to the latest voter card,” he said.

“The drive may be your last opportunity to upgrade to the latest voter card.

“We are in the last phase of the drive. We will be in towns, settlements and urban centres around the country.

“We’re going to individual streets; we are at major shopping centers and schools that are in busy localities to allow as many Fijians as possible to have access.”

He said they had visited more than 200 settlements, 1123 villages and surveyed 993 polling venues.

Mr Saneem said a $30,000 bonanza will be drawn on April 20 and 300 lucky winners will take $100 cash at the end of the drive.

Hire of vehicles

The Fijian Elections Office invites reputable rental/hire companies or those who are in the business of providing transport services to submit expressions of interest for the provision of transport services.

Mr Saneem said: “We need roughly 260 four-by-four vehicles for the election.  To this end, we had put out an expression of interest which closed earlier, and we did not receive a sufficient number of applications.

“Considering the changes in the fuel costs, we have now advertised it again for $350 a day for the provision of vehicles to the Fijian Elections Office.”

Applications will close on April 22, 2022
