Development works at Waidamudamu Settlement in Nausori is progressing with the Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) electrification project into its final stages.

This was confirmed by the Minister for Local Government, Housing and Community Development Premila Kumar during her visit to Savusavu in the past week.

Ms Kumar said the ministry had already paid a substantial amount of money to EFL. Electricity is one of the main utility services required to turn the informal settlement into a subdivision.

“They will need a new transformer for electricity connection,” Ms Kumar stated.

Ms Kumar said they were in constant discussions with EFL on how soon the works would be completed.

“Once that is done, then we are in a position to allocate lots to the existing settlers,” Ms Kumar said.

However, Ms Kumar said they could not confirm the price of the house blocks at this stage.

“The pricing works are carried out by the Permanent Secretary for Housing and Community Development in consultation with the Ministry of Housing,” he said.

She reiterated that once the EFL line was sorted and all the other costs were decided, then the surveyor would be called to define the house blocks for the settlers.

Ms Kumar said the place would be valued based on the recent developments made.

“At the same time, the cost will go up because of proper sewage lines, good footpath, better roads and electricity that have been developed in the area,” she added.
