Equal Footing A Way Forward: Wakaniyasi

Equal rights and chances are needed to assist people living with disabilities, said Fiji Spinal Injury Association executive director, Joshko Wakaniyasi.
He was speaking at the Fiji Museum on Thursday evening during a reception hosted by the Association and the British High Commission.
The reception was organised to acknowledge the contribution that people living with disabilities have done to the Fijian society.

Mr Wakaniyasi said for society to move forward, there was a need for equal footing.
British High Commissioner George Edgar said they were happy to support and partner with the Fiji Spinal Injury Association.
Assistant Minister for Women, Veena Bhatnagar, in her address said the Government’s focus was on ensuring that equal opportunities existed for all.
She said the rights of people living with disability were enshrined in the Constitution.
The reception was also a venue for the sale of artwork, garments and other items made by members of the association.
And the entertainment for the night was by a band that had most singers who were visually impaired and people living with disabilities.
