Former FijiFirst Member of Parliament, Vijendra Prakash has been sentenced to 36 months in prison.

After eight weeks of trial last year, the Anti-Corruption High Court of Suva found Prakash guilty for obtaining $33,670 of public money.

Prakash is ordered to serve 28 months in jail with a non-parole period of 22 months while the remaining eight months has been suspended for a period of five years.

Prakash was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one count each of giving false information to a public servant and obtaining financial advantage.

Anti-Corruption High Court Judge Justice Dr Thushara Kumarage found Prakash guilty for both charges and convicted him accordingly.
