Many former students of Tokaimalo District School converged at their Tokaimalo District School in the Ra Province to celebrate its platinum jubilee in style.

School head teacher Jitendra Kumar, who initiated the event with the school manager and committee, said to celebrate the school’s 70 years, was a great success.

“This was to fundraise also to complete the school walkway since we are nearing the wet weather season and our children will not have to struggle up walking to the school building,” Mr Kumar said.

“The committee managed to collect a sum of $8000 to complete the school walkway,” said Mr Kumar who is the first Fijian of Indian descent to be the head of school."

Mr Kumar added for the first time the school has got the newly elected trustees who are five chiefs of the different villages.

TDS Ex-scholar Association secretary Lice Samuri, who attended the school from 1996 – 2004, praised the worthy cause programme.

The school teacher said it was a great reunion for the former students.

“The reunion has been long overdue, we met for more than 30 years taking into consideration the input put in place by the school to nurture us,” she said.

Meanwhile, TDS was established in 1952 and is one of the oldest schools in the Ra Province. It is situated in the highlands of Ra strongly linked to Nakauvadra Ranges. The school has a roll of 142 students.
