For Amele Biu Besetimoala, the COVID-19 pandemic and its 'No Jab, No Job' policy became a stepping stone to greater achievements.
The 39-year-old former teacher from Sabeto, Nadi, graduated on Friday with a Bachelor of Teaching in Primary Inservice during the 2024 University of Fiji ceremony at Saweni Campus, Lautoka.
Despite losing her job during the pandemic for refusing vaccination, she turned the setback into an opportunity.

"I couldn't continue teaching during the pandemic because I chose not to be vaccinated," she said.
"But I believe everything happens for a reason. Losing my job gave me the chance to focus on higher education. I'm hopeful to return to teaching next year and continue advancing my studies."
Married to a Naroi villager from Moala Island, Lau, and a mother of four, Ms Besetimoala faced the challenges of balancing family, studies, and other commitments.
"It wasn't easy to manage my responsibilities, but I thank God for this achievement," she shared.
"I'm deeply grateful to my husband, parents, and in-laws for their unwavering support. This degree is dedicated to them."
She also encouraged others to pursue their dreams regardless of circumstances.
"Age, marriage, or children are not barriers to success. If you have the will, you can achieve anything."
Reflecting on her journey, Ms Besetimoala noted the importance of perseverance.
"Success isn't just about having a job; it's about striving for the highest level of education and personal growth."
Her story is a testament to resilience, proving that determination can turn challenges into triumphs.
